* It keeps the kids off the TV and doing math in the summer * Great parent interface with data for what level your kid is working on and what help they need. * It’s real math and requires math questions to be answered My kids are 7, 9, and 11 and all like to interact with each other while playing in separate devices. They love it!! Before noon the next day they had each surpassed 100 more questions just because it was fun with the new epics. This was a huge hit!! It unlocks special areas in the game for them to play. I bought these “epics” figures from prodigy for about $10 each (volume discount for buying more than 1). So then I upped the ante and told them that if they answered 250 questions a week they would get a prize. I started using the “goals” feature which incentivized them to play more and it is free! When they hit a goal, they get a prize item in the game. Now I let them play as often as they want. For $50/year per child I got a yearly membership. It assesses where your child is based on grade level and provides the parent with a detailed listing of every skill that is being quizzed and your child’s areas of need. I went ahead and looked into the game closer and realized that it is very good. Around this same time, one of my kids asked about joining prodigy as a member (they had been playing at school). For example struggling with double digit by double digit multiplication. I still use Sylvan, but that was where I first saw a method of breaking every class level into smaller sub-skills and focusing on where they fell short. As my one child fell further behind in math, we started Sylvan at $50/hour. They hated it and it always caused fights at work time although the curriculum was excellent. Instead my kids went to Kumon for $100/month per kid. I was against “video games” and too much screen time. I was against prodigy when I got a flyer from the school several years ago. So the game is not the *best* role playing game, but that is not my goal as a parent. It’s not about fantasy play, it’s about learning math in a less-boring way. I’m an engineer and I feel the math curriculum in this game is great. I’m against violence, but this game is only showing a plasma like poof and then you get a message that you either won or lost. Also, those who say it is violent are a bit extreme. The game is very well done, so I don’t know why you would expect it to be free.
